MIKE WALDRAM Peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, after a courageous battle with cancer, our dear friend and mentor died on Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Selkirk General Hospital at the age of 54 years. Mike was the much loved husband of Kate Murphy and the son of Bill Waldram and Dorothy (Monk) Waldram. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Jim (Pamela) and their daughters, Kaitlin and Amara Jaine-Waldram; his father-in-law Claude Murphy (Peggy, died December 27, 2005 at Selkirk General Hospital); and the rest of his Murphy family, Maureen (Gerry), Aileen (Greg), Robert (Anne), Paul and their children, Sean, Brady, Brittany and Angie. Mike's working life was dedicated to the forest, in all its parts and the people who live and work there... for all our relations . Mike worked for almost 20 years in the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources throughout northern and especially northwestern Ontario as a forester, planner and manager, with a special interest in long-term forest and land use planning. Mike had a special affection for his first plantation and hoped to see it as it is now...a forest. As General Manager of the Manitoba Model Forest for the past dozen years, he helped a large and diverse group of people come together in a spirit of reconciliation, curiosity and joy, to learn and work together. In the same spirit, Mike travelled to many parts of the world for both play and work and loved to introduce others to the adventure of travel and meeting people in other countries. These are some of the things that Mike leaves for us to remember him. On Friday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m., Mike's funeral service celebrating his life will be held in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr., Winnipeg, MB. All of the Murphy family wish to give special thanks to Lynne Richardson, Dr. Rick Lindenschmidt and the inspired nursing and administrative staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and Home Care for their love and care in a difficult time. For it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. St. Francis' Prayer for Peace. Mike's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Kate, My sincere condolences on your loss. I will unfortunately be out of the country on January 27, otherwise I would certainly be joining you and others in celebrating Mike's life. I really appreciated the time working with Mike on the East Side Planning Initiative and learned much from his knowledge and guidance. Bill - Posted by: Bill Anderson (Co-Worker) on: Jan 23, 2006
