Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE KATZ-CHERNICK January 26, 1924 - January 16, 2006 Anne Katz-Chernick began life as Annie Paisner, the daughter of Golda Raff and Meyer Paisner, who ran the general store in Rossburn, MB. Her mother died when she was born and her stepmother, Rachel Feldman Paisner, raised Anne as her own child, along with Anne's younger brother, Dr. Hy Paisner. Annie became Anne, or Chansi Katz on May 1, 1945 when she married Sydney Katz, pharmacist. Together, they ran the Winnipeg's north-end icon, Balfour Drugs, on the corner of Cathedral and Main. Anne was known to keep dog biscuits for her favourite customers. In the mid 1970s, Anne and Syd Katz went to live in Los Angeles, CA. After Syd's death in 1987, Anne returned to Winnipeg. In May 1991, she married Harry Chernick and became known as Anne-Katz-Chernick or Anne Chernick. Together, Anne and Harry had a fun-filled five years of singing, dancing, and traveling the world. Anne was known for her beauty, her artistic ability and her many talents. She was known as a vivacious and popular person, as well as a dedicated wife, a caring sister and aunt, a loving mother and an adoring grandmother. Anne loved to sing, whether it was in the Pentecostal Church of her hometown or the Rosh Pina Synagogue. She loved to dance, act in plays and write, whether it was letters to friends, articles in the synagogue's news letters or poems of her thoughts. She loved to crochet and knit and her items were works of art. Anne was an incredible entertainer and was known for her baking whether it was her cinnamon buns, coffee cakes or her artistic torte creations. Anne never did manage to master Yorkshire pudding! Anne was a longtime member of the Rosh Pina Synagogue and was very involved in the choir, many productions, and newsletters. She was a primary organizer for the choir's trip to Israel and the records it produced. Anne's many talents included playing the piano by ear, speaking English, Ukrainian, Yiddish, and a bit of Russian. In her later years, she made a valiant attempt to learn American Sign Language (ASL). Anne will be lovingly remembered by her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Hy and Sheila Paisner of Minneapolis, and their four sons and their families now residing throughout the U.S.; her daughter Gael Katz and son-in-law Richard Hellman of San Diego; her daughter Marsha Katz of Winnipeg; and her grandchildren, Matthew and Natalie Gale of Winnipeg. Anne's last nine years were spent in the Sharon Home. Her family will be forever grateful for the exceptional care she received by the 3rd floor nursing staff, paraprofessional staff and the centre's support staff. Anne's family would also like to extend a very special thank you to Nelia's friendship these many years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anne's memory to a charity of choice.
