MARGARET (PEGGY) ROSE CASSELMAN After a brief illness at the Grace Hospice, Winnipeg, with courage and dignity on January 18, 2006, Peggy of Elie, MB passed away. She is survived by her sister Irma Petrie of Vancouver, BC, niece Lise Petrie of St. John's, NF, and her children, Callum and Kendall; nephew Blair Petrie (Kathleen Leahy) of Vancouver, BC and their son Liam. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Charles and Constance Douglas. Peggy was born in Winnipeg on January 14, 1928 and was the first female sales representative employed by Carling O'Keefe Brewery until her retirement. Peggy enjoyed basketball, bowling and excelled at competitive curling, which began at the Wildwood Curling Club and later at the Granite Curling Club. She won the Dominion Ladies Canadian Championships in 1965, the Seagram's Mixed Canadian Championship in 1973. She also won the Provincial Mixed Championships in 1970 and 1973 and the Provincial Senior Ladies Title in 1989. As a result of her 1965 win Peggy, along with her Wildwood team of Val Taylor, Pat Scott and Pat MacDonald was inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame in 1988. Through her love and devotion to animals, Peggy became a thoroughbred owner and a fan of racing at Assiniboia Downs. Peggy always enjoyed the company of her good friends and her weekly bridge games. Peggy wanted to give special thanks to all those who brightened her days with flowers, cards, visits, baking and many acts of kindness to: Carole Davis, Val Taylor, Pat Charad, Joan Ingram, Elaine James, Liz Frederickson, Monique and Christa Vann, Simone Desilets, and Lorette Dufresne. Honourable mention also goes to all the staff at Grace Hospital, Grace Hospice and Kathy Penner of Birchwood Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Peggy's life will be held Friday, January 27, 2:00 p.m. at the Hilton Suites Hotel, 1800 Wellington Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
