KATHERINE WACH Peacefully, on Friday, January 20, 2006, the first resident of Concordia Place, Katherine Wach, passed away at the age of 106 years. Katherine was born, raised and educated in Cooks Creek, MB. She married John Wach in 1917 in Cooks Creek and together they moved to Winnipeg. After her employment with CIBC in maintenance and the cafeteria for over 25 years, Katherine involved herself with the Main Street Senior's Club Choir, the Selkirk Senior's Club, the Dufferin Seniors Centre and the Poplar Avenue Community Centre. She baked for many of the Community Centre's teas, and often before her coat was even off, her baking had already sold. She also enjoyed playing bingo at both St. Alphonsus and Holy Eucharist Churches and had travelled with the Seniors Groups by bus to Butcher Gardens in British Columbia and California. Katherine was a devout member of Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church for 88 years. She never missed Divine Liturgy on Sunday, and kept all the fasts and attended all the feast day services. Katherine volunteered at all the Parish functions and was well-known for her Paskas . When asked for her recipe for paska, she told people, It is just a handful of this, and a handful of that. Katherine leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Mary Horbal; three grandsons, Fr. Andrew Wach, Fr. Daniel Wach, OSBM, Ken (Judy) Wach; three great-grandsons, Jeffrey, Matthew, Nathaniel; daughter-in-law Frances Wach; granddaughter-in-law Carolyn; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1952; two sons, Nick in infancy, Andrew in 1995; two grandsons, Taras Horbal in 1974, Jaroslaw Horbal in 1985; four brothers John, Nick, Mike and Stanley Kalinski; two sisters Mary Zaborniak and Cecilia Wasney. Prayers will be sung 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 24 (tonight) at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue at Watt Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 25 also at the Church with Fr. M. Winn officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Taras Wach, Andy Sirski, Nicholas Sirski, Joe Kalinski, Walter Kalinski and Russell Kozoris. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
