ANASTASIA (NETTIE) PATSON Peacefully, on the morning of Monday, January 23, 2006, after a lengthy illness, Nettie was called home to the Lord. Nettie leaves behind her daughter Theresa, son-in-law Garry Barnes, her grandchildren, Melanie, Jeffrey and Jennifer, her dear sister Matilda and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John, her parents, Anna (nee Lachowitz) and Jacob Krupp, brothers, Bill, Walter, John, Nick and Michael and sisters, Mary and Tatiana. Nettie was born in Stornoway, SK and grew up on the family farm in that community. She received her secondary school education in Togo, SK. As a young adult, she moved to Winnipeg, where she met and married John. They enjoyed over 50 years together at their home on Elgin Avenue. Although Nettie's working life focused primarily on her family, she periodically worked outside the home, including a period of employment with Eaton's. Nettie was a longtime member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Catholic Women's League and the Apostleship of Prayer. She served her parish community as a volunteer visitor to the sick, and by participating in church fundraising activities. Nettie was an avid gardener and took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed doing handicrafts such as crocheting, knitting, embroidery, cross-stitching and needlepoint. Her happiest times were her visits with her grandchildren, of whom she was very proud, and her travels and visits with other family members throughout Canada. She will always be fondly remembered for her generosity, her love of music, her sense of humour and her wonderful cooking. Nettie's family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to the caregivers of Unit 1 at St. Joseph's Residence, for the professional care, friendship and the tender comfort they provided to Nettie during her stay at St. Joseph's. Prayers will be held on Thursday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, January 27 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Bannerman Street and Arlington Avenue, with the Basilian Fathers officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in Nettie's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
