HELEN PICHUR (PICHOR) Peacefully on January 23, 2006 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, Helen Pichur, aged 85 years, of Selkirk, MB. Mom was born and raised in the Thalberg district. As a teenager, she went to Winnipeg to work as a mother's helper. Later, she moved back to Thalberg where she met Henry and they married on May 22, 1937. Mom and Dad lived in various areas of Manitoba and finally settled in Selkirk. Mom worked at the laundry of the Selkirk General Hospital for 25 years. Mom loved her family very much. She loved having the whole family over for dinner for all the holidays. Everybody was always welcome. The first thing she would do was feed you and you couldn't say no! Besides cooking and baking, she loved working in her garden. She did a lot of canning (and made the best pickles) when she was able to get around. Mom was also a regular churchgoer until her illness prevented her from attending, although she managed to help with perogy making for the church, when she could. Even in the difficult times, she always wore a smile and was very optimistic. MOM, WE LOVE YOU AND WE WILL MISS YOU. Helen was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1990, son Jim in 1986 and Clifford in infancy, granddaughter Terry in 2001, great-granddaughter Summer Dawn in 1994, and sisters, Pearl in 1962, Annie in 1988, Mary in 1996 and Nellie in 2002 and her parents, Joseph and Teenie Leshko. She leaves surviving daughters, Alice (Gordon) of Beausejour and Vi (Lawrence) of Selkirk, sons, Steve (Betty) of Selkirk and Gary of Winnipeg, a sister Teenie Solowey of Winnipeg; 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild (Owen); and numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers will be said on Wednesday (tonight), January 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 26 at 10:30 a.m. also in the chapel with interment in the Holy Eucharist Cemetery, Selkirk. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My brothers, Jim and John, and myself would like to extend our most deep-felt sympathies to Helen's immediate family. Helen and her late husband, Henry, had been John's godparents. Helen and her husband have been a part of our lives for many warmly remembered years. They were gentle, wise, supportive, and good friends. They had always been willing to extend a helping hand. They will both be missed. God bless. - Posted by: Paulette Rozak (Family) on: Jan 24, 2006
