Date of Passing: Jan 16, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN O'FLAHERTY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John O'Flaherty on Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Concordia Hospital. John received his education in Montreal, QC; Guelph, ON and the University of Manitoba that led him to a career in teaching, with Ms. Dance, principal of Dufferin School in the intercity of Winnipeg. Ms. Dance was the first to fund her own breakfast program for any child that was hungry. Here John was able to contribute a major part of his time and effort as well as his pay, to give others a chance to live a better life. John soon became a major contributor by providing the basic needs for our society - the right to shelter, to be clothed, and to be fed, and to be free of harms way. He believed that neither child, nor mother/father should live in fear. John often questioned, how can they learn? John soon realized his calling - he could better serve society as a social worker. He became an advocate for the first people of our province the runaways, the homeless, single parents, seniors and drug/alcohol abusers, and the library at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary. He devoted his life to others, this was his passion and obsession, his courage, and inner strength. John had the knowledge of what is right and the desire to do what is right with everyone he met. Through his strong beliefs in God, John succeeded to make life a little easier for many. To each and everyone, John O'Flaherty was exceptionally caring, considerate, generous and loyal, oh - he too loved pets, our dog-Penny. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Theresa's Church, 3597 Main St. in West St. Paul. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J.COUTU CO.
