KATHE WIEBE Passed away at the age of 98 with her son Nick and daughter-in-law Agnes Kroeger at her side on the night of January 23, 2006. Besides her son and daughter-in-law she is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Kathe was predeceased by her husband Gerhard Kroeker and second husband Jakob Wiebe as well as her sons, Henry, Frank, daughters, Helen and Marusja. Kathe was born in Konstantinowka, Ukraine on June 26, 1907. Her parents died when she was 7 years of age. She was raised by an Uncle in Einlage Ukraine. When she was a young teenager she was sent to a family as a housekeeper. She was married on March 1, 1927 to Gerhard Kroeker in Neuendorf, Ukraine. From this marriage she had four children. Her husband was forcefully taken from her in 1934 and never heard from again. She raised her children throughout the Ukraine. She had to uproot her family and move as necessary. She worked as an office worker or field worker. In 1943 she went from the Ukraine to Poland and from there to Central Germany. She moved to Paraguay in 1948. She married Jacob Wiebe in 1952. They moved to Canada in 1954 where he passed away a few years later. While in Canada she found her son Henry in Russia and sponsored him and his family to Canada. She lived in Canada with her son Nick, Agnes and family in a house in the West End of Winnipeg. She retired at the age of 65. At which time she moved to Arlington House. There she was re-acquainted with old friends and made many new friends. In December 2004 she moved into Donwood Personal Care Home where she was well cared for until her death. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 26 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave. with viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
