Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET ELLEN LILLIAN ERICKSON (nee LUKE) It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother, Margaret on January 24, 2006, at Misericordia Place in Winnipeg. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Annie Luke; loving husband Walter; son Walter (Wally); and brothers, William, James and Patrick Luke. Margaret is lovingly remembered by her sons, James (Edna), Ralph; daughter Shirley (Dwaine) Mollard; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Andrew, Winnipeg, Evelyn (Jim) Grainger, Mississauga, ON, Dorothy Paulley, Burnaby, BC; and brother Ralph (Doreen) Luke, Spokane, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret was born on February 23, 1914 in St. Boniface, MB to Ernest and Annie Luke. She attended King George School and later began working at Canada Packers where she remained until her marriage in 1935 to Walter. She found fulfilment as a homemaker and taking care of her family. In her earlier years, she attended Norwood United Church being an active member of the Ladies' Auxiliary and participated in curling. She was a loving mother and grandmother with a wonderful humourous spirit who devoted herself to her family. Always the gracious hostess, she enjoyed entertaining her family and friends, of which many have fond memories of her and Walter's Christmas Eve gatherings. She was a loving companion to her husband Walter until his passing in 1979. In her later years, she bowled in a Ladies' League with her sister Alice with whom she shared a close relationship. Her favourite times were those spent with her children and grandchildren. At the age of 86, after being confined to a wheelchair, she entered Misericordia Place Care Home. During her stay at Misericordia, she enjoyed participating in various activities. She always had a friendly handclasp and smile for the residents and staff. Her strength and determination until the end was an inspiration to all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff on Apple Tree Lane at Misericordia Place for their compassionate care of Margaret over the last six years. A special thanks to grandson Brent Erickson for his devotion to Grandma. A memorial service celebrating Margaret's life will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the E. J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. with Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to the Canadian Mental Health Association (Winnipeg Region), 432 Ellice Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1Y4. When someone has given so much of herself through the years, It's hard to find a way to say thanks... But for all the times you took the time, For all the sacrifices you made, And for all the wonderful memories you've given our family... Thanks, Mom and Grandma you will always be loved and treasured in our hearts. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street Ph. 253-5086
