Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED HERMAN GERLACH On Thursday, January 26, 2006 at the age of 69 years, Alfred peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home. He leaves surviving his kind hearted wife of 35 years Joan; his children, Jason (Leighsa) and Alicia and granddaughter Bailie. Alfred was born in Berlin, Germany on February 9, 1936. He came to Canada in search of fulfilling his hopes and dreams after losing his father in the war. He met his wife Joan while working for Grey Goose, he was a bus driver and she was a passenger. They were married on September 12, 1970 and he moved on to a career with VIA Rail. Alfred retired after 23 years in 1992 and spent his remaining years doing things he loved. Anything from gardening, snow removal, word search puzzles and always lending a hand to friends in the neighborhood. A husband, father and friend, he will be missed and remembered by all. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 6297 Henderson Hwy., Gonor, MB, Fr. Peter Chorney will be officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jason Gerlach, Larry Florko, Wayne Krenz, Dave Kublick, Jamie Bacon and Gary Chizick. Honorary pallbearers will be Alicia Gerlach, Spencer and Sarah Bacon, Peter Nahirny, John Chizick and Lawrence Overbeeke. Special thanks to Dr. Karen Braun. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
