Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALVIN CHRISTIAN SCHINDEL Alvin Christian Schindel, a faithful servant of Jesus Christ ended his early pilgrimage at his residence on Saturday, January 28, 2006. Left to cherish his memory is his living wife of 54 years, Cora (Grafham); daughter Joanne (Bob) Bergen; grandchildren, Tomas and Kyle Bergen; brothers Arthur Schindel of Edmonton, AB, Ray (Deb) Schindel of Cochrane, AB; sister Edith (Ken) Kvanvig of Cary NC; sister-in-law Phyllis (Bob) Swaffield of Kirkland, WA; brother-in-law Bill (Marcia) Grafham of Calgary, AB and a number of nieces and nephews. Alvin was predeceased by his parents John and Josephine Schindel; step-mother Ruth; sister Esther; sister-in-law Betty and parents-in-law Edgar and Gladys Grafham. Alvin was born on February 15, 1922, at Overstone MB, and was the first son of a farmer who never forgot his roots. He became an ordained minister of PAOC, and began a long teaching career, returning to his alma mater Western Bible College in Winnipeg. Alvin taught there for five years before being invited to join the faculty of Bethal Bible Institute, now Central Pentecostal College in Saskatoon, in 1949. He taught for 25 years serving in various capacities of leadership. From 1974-1981 he taught the Old Testament in EPBC Peterborough. Upon returning to Saskatoon Alvin taught until retiring in 1991. Throughout his life he pursued more education, studying at the U of Manitoba; the University of Saskatchewan; the University of Minnesota and the Princeton Theological Seminary. Alvin was active since retirement serving on the board of the Canadian Bible Society; IVCF Friendship Program; Lawrence Trafford Evangelistic Association; SESIG; volunteer work in Elim Tabernacle and a member of CARG. Many thanks to Alvin's doctors and the Palliative Care Team who made it possible for him to be cared for at home during his struggle with cancer. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. from Elim Tabernacle (3718 8th St. East) with Pastor Marvin Wojda officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Bible Society (1034 Louise Ave. Saskatoon, SK S7H 2P6) or Living Memorial, Child Care Plus, Eastern Europe (in care of 3718 8th Street East Saskatoon, SK S7H 4T4).
