ROBERT EDWARD MCRAE Robert E. McRae, age 46, died Thursday, January 26, 2006. Rob was a native of Signal Mountain, TN and had lived the last 8 years in Singapore. As a teenager, he enjoyed scouting and became an Eagle Scout. Rob attended Thrasher Elementary and Signal Mountain Junior High and graduated from The Baylor School. He was an outstanding football and basketball player obtaining all-city and all-state honorable mention in both sports while at Baylor. He was honored with the prestigious Cogdill Award his senior year. Rob attended Rhodes College in Memphis where he continued playing football and was president of Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduation Rob was employed by the Cargill, Inc. His 24 year career with Cargill took him to assignments in Texas, Indiana, Chicago, Minneapolis, Winnipeg, Canada and finally to Singapore. At the time of his death, he was the President and Director of Cargill's large and wide-spread Asian Enterprise. Rob and his family loved to travel. His business and recreation trips took him to virtually every part of the globe. He traveled extensively in the last few years in China and India. Rob was also extensively involved in the Singapore American athletic community. He particularly enjoyed coaching his sons' baseball, basketball and football teams. His civic activities included American Chamber of Commerce-Singapore Board of Governors member. He was also instrumental in helping to develop a program to assist in feeding the hungry of Singapore. Rob is survived by his wife Jan and their two boys Robbie and Wyatt of Singapore; his parents Bob and Margaret McRae of Signal Mountain; his sister Karen (Colin) Doran of Johnson City, TN; and his brother David (Kit) of Dallas, TX. Friends are invited to a memorial service to be held in the Baylor Chapel on The Baylor School campus at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4 with Margaret Ferguson of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, Father Peter Iorio of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Baylor Chaplain Dan Scott officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the The Baylor School board room. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in memory of Rob to the Rob McRae Memorial Fund at The Baylor School 171 Baylor School Road; Chattanooga TN 37405 or to Rhodes College, 2000 N. Parkway, Memphis TN 38112 or to the Rob McRae Memorial S.E.A.Y.B.S.T. Baseball Scholarship Fund in care of First Tennessee Bank.
