ANNIE SURBEY (NANA) (nee MORRISON) June 19, 1920 - January 28, 2006 Peacefully and according to her wishes, Annie passed away in her home surrounded by her family's love. Annie is lovingly remembered by her sons Vincent (Val) (Shirley), Jerry (Gail) (Diana), daughter-in-law Marilyn, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 sister, 4 brothers, their families and many friends. Annie was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. She was the eldest of 8 children. In 1940, Annie married her beloved Vincent Surbey. After being widowed, she moved to Winnipeg and dedicated her life to raising her 3 boys. She remained a St. Vital resident until her passing. Annie hired out with Eaton's in 1947 and continued her employment until her retirement in 1976. She remained an active member of Eaton's retirees until her passing. Anyone who knew Annie recognized she was an active participant in life. Her interests included: curling, baseball, lawn bowling, tai chi, garage sailing and doll-making, just to mention a few. Annie was also well-known for her home-made wine, beer and dilly carrots. She was a long-time supporter and tireless volunteer of her church. Annie loved her summer home, Miramichi, which was a retreat for her and her family. Miramichi fulfilled Annie's commitment to instil strong family bonds. Seeing generations enjoy the cabin and overseeing her family brought her great pride and joy. Miramichi remains a much loved and sentimental home for many. Annie was a remarkable woman. Her independence was something to be admired and respected by all. She never slowed down or became a bystander of life. She got a family tattoo in honour of her grandson Jason at age 75, attended Glenlawn Collegiate with her granddaughter to study computers at 76, participated in the Terry Fox Walk-a-thon at 80, and parasailed in Mexico at 83. She was happy to be re-united with Al Surbey and together they spent several years travelling and visiting their families. Annie is now reunited with her parents, Mary Anne and David Morrison, husband Vincent Surbey, life partner George Bennett, son Leonard Surbey, and her grandsons Jason Surbey, Tyler Surbey and Christopher Surbey. The family encourages those wishing to share their memories of Annie to do so at the service. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at St. Mark's Anglican Church at 1:30 pm, located at 19 St. Mark's Place, Winnipeg, MB. Reception to follow. Service to terminate at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Annie's name to St. Mark's Anglican Church, Cancer Care Manitoba or the charity of your choice. Deepest sympathy to the entire Surbey family. Auntie Annie was an inspiration to all who knew her. I will never forget the special moments we spent together at Surbey Lake in August of 2002. All of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Regards, Brad Zerr - Posted by: Brad Zerr (Family) on: Jan 31, 2006
