LYDIA SKY May 14, 1919 - January 30, 2006 On January 30, 2006 at the age of 86, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the Beausejour Hospital and has since gone to a wonderful home in heaven. She leaves an empty place in the hearts and lives of those who love her, especially her daughters, Waltraud (Otto) Grieger, Lena (Dave) Shambrock; and grandchildren, Michael, Robert (Noreen), Peter, Susanne (Peter) and Jonathen; and great-grandchild Tanner. Lydia was born on May 14, 1919 in Kamin, Germany, the youngest of 11 children. She endured the harsh reality of war before immigrating to Canada in 1952. In 2002 she was fortunate enough to celebrate her 50th anniversary in Canada with family and friends. Some of Mom's enduring qualities which will live on in her children and grandchildren include strength, courage and a very strong faith in God, that she lived daily by comforting others who were feeling down. Some of Mom's unique abilities and skills were to be able to make something wonderful out of scraps of material and mend things that nobody thought were salvageable. Mom loved gardening especially nurturing plants that everyone else had given up on. Mom made the world's best bread, donuts and perogies that were served with love to family and friends. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, February 3 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 403 - 1st (Gertrude) Street North, Beausejour, MB with Pastor Hugh Laidlaw officiating. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba or simply helping someone in need.
