ELLA PICKEN (nee GRABOWSKI) Ella passed away peacefully on January 29, 2006 at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Leslie, in 1990. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by children, Grace, Terry (Kathleen), Rod (Carol), Karen (Dennis), Mikki, Tim (Susan); 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters, Elsie and Sammy (Harold); and many devoted nieces and nephews. A dynamic individual, her first love was her family, immediate and extended, always taking an interest in each person. Her home was a gathering place for all with plentiful food, endless card games, horseshoes in summer, Granny's gooey birthday cakes, the occasional political debate and always lots of laughter. She was an avid bingo player, loved sports of all kinds and took great interest in world affairs. Very creative and energetic, her pet projects included sewing, gardening and in later years a great deal of knitting. A Granny's sweater, toque, or afghan was a gift to be treasured. Her strength and determination saw her family through troubled times and along with our father, she was generous with her time and energy to those who needed it. We can't imagine life without her, but are grateful for her long life and the many gifts she has bestowed. We would like to thank the staff at Concordia 3 West for their dedicated care of our Mother and Granny and kindness to our family. Also special thanks to Rev. Kolleen Karlowsky-Clark who provided healing and guidance during these past difficult weeks. A service celebrating Ella's life will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethania Haus, 1060 Kimberly.
