RUSSELL ARTHUR MCLEOD August 16, 1935 - January 24, 2006 A Soldier Promoted to Glory, Russ died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Russ leaves to mourn his wife and best friend Bette; son Rory (Jennifer) of Melita, MB; daughters, Brucein Woodfield (Ron) of Regina, SK and grandchildren, Bobby, Trisha and Brett; and Bevanee Kozun (Don) of Winnipeg, MB and grandchildren, Michelle (Uri) and Tim; cousins, Pat Willimen of Elyria, OH and Walter Dionne of Kelowna, BC; brother-in-law Gary Williams (Mary) of Souris, MB; sister-in-law Marilyn Williams of Brandon, MB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Born and raised in the north end of Winnipeg, Russ started his career at Manitoba Telephone System at an early age and after 38 years, had worked on the D.E.W. Line; in Brandon; in Saudia, Arabia; and back to Winnipeg. Retirement found Russ with not a minute to spare. He had numerous odd jobs - security work, helping to overhaul aeroplane engines and driving vehicles all over North America. Russ loved to read just about anything, but especially history and astronomy and was very proud of a telescope he had recently built. He enjoyed volunteer work and the people he would meet. Russ volunteered at the Christmas Cheer Board for 12 years and at numerous sporting events. For many years, he was a student at the adult music camp at International Peace Gardens and most recently had been appointed to the Board of Directors at the camp. He loved to boat and Sadiki was his pride and joy where he spent hours either fixing or being at the wheel. Russ spent many hours in his shop fixing or making some piece of equipment, but most of all, retirement renewed his love for music and especially brass bands and the fellowship they brought. Russ was a past member of the Brandon Kinsmen Club and the Naval Reserves. Present member of the Acacia Lodge, the Shrine Club, The New Heights Church of the Salvation Army and many musical bands. Our family finds comfort in knowing Russ is with his Saviour in Heaven, a far better place and free from the pain and agony of cancer and he awaits the time his family will join him. Russ' funeral service was held on Saturday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. in Heritage Park Temple, 825 School Rd. with Major Debbie and Captain Stan Higdon officiating. Interment followed at Chapel Lawn. Our family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Victoria General Hospital, Oncology Department and the Palliative Care Team members for all their help and support. If friends so desire, donations in Russ' memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away. You suffered much in silence You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting until the very end. God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be, So He put his arms around you and whispered, Come to Me . So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer that again. Deeply Missed - Always Loved - Your Family Russ' arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
