JOSEPH WILLIAM JOHN BURTON May 7, 1921 - January 31, 2006 John died peacefully on January 31, 2006 at his residence, at the age of 84 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth; brothers, Tom and Dennis. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty; daughters, Patricia, Audrey and Susan; sons-in-law, Ron, Dale and Larry; grandchildren, Kevin (Melissa), Erin (Jeff), Stacey, Griffin, Alan (Susan), Kathrine (Sean), Rachel, Christopher (Cjae), Geoffrey, Ryan; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jordon, Tyler, Trevor, Sean, Kieran, Jordon, Kayla, Iya; sisters-in-law, Dot and Sylvia in England, Audrey and family in Los Angles, CA, Betty and family in Nanaimo, BC. John was born in London, England on May 7, 1921, the eldest of three brothers. He joined the army in 1942 as a Royal Engineer, serving in Europe from 1944 to 1947. John met Betty while stationed in Edinburgh and they were married in 1945. When John immigrated to Canada he joined the Canadian Army Reserves, serving until he retired in 1968. He was a lifetime member of A.N.A.F. 283, joining in 1965. John served as Sergeant-at-arms from 1974 to 1976; as well as Sergeant-at-arms of the Provincial command from 1977 to 1986. John retired from John Wood Co. after 30 years. From there he finished his career at Flyer Bus Co. John was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. His retirement years were filled with darts, curling, bowling, travelling and keeping up with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Special thanks to all the Home Care workers, nurses and Dr. Kotecha. At John's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A memorial reception will be held on February 9, 2006 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. for family and friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB,R2L 1X3 or The Salvation Army Memorial Fund, P.O.
