CAROL ZOKVIC After a courageous battle with cancer, Carol Zokvic passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the age of 43. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her parents, Steve and Anne; brother Steven; sister-in-law Tammy; niece Emma; and many aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Canada, Europe, and Australia. Carol was born in the Karlovac Region of Croatia on August 23, 1962. She immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1969. After a short stay in southern Ontario, the Zokvic Family ultimately settled in the Elmwood area of Winnipeg for the majority of her school years. Although Carol later moved to West Kildonan, where she resided until her passing, she still maintained close contact with childhood friend Wendy. Carol was employed at Revenue Canada since 1986 and developed many special friendships at work over those years. She would often be heard talking about her friends at work, and describing all the fond memories and good times they shared. Carol was a very independent, yet giving person. She would rarely ever ask others for help, but would offer anything she could to make others better off. Even during her illness, Carol tried to hide her suffering from her family and friends in order to spare them the sadness. Throughout her battle with Cancer, Carol remained strong and committed to her family. Even though her aggressive Radiation and Chemotherapy treatments would often make her very tired and weak, Carol would always make time to get regular doses of Emma -her niece that she often referred to as her Medicine. Carol truly cherished every moment they had together. Viewing for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, February 7 from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, a prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, followed by a reception, also at Glen Eden. The Zokvic Family would like to sincerely thank all those individuals from CancerCare Manitoba, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for providing their exceptional care, compassion, comfort, and kindness during the very difficult past 13 months. As well, we will always be grateful to Carol's many dear friends who tried to help her cope with the difficulties she faced during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB. R3E 0V9 or to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital, 343 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A5 in Carol's memory. Carol, we love you and will miss you very much. You will remain in our hearts forever. But when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer all that again.
