VERA ELISA SAUNDERS (nee JORGENSON) With family at her side, Vera passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2006. She is survived by two daughters, Audrey (Gordon) McLauchlin of Orillia, ON, and Judy (Dan) Peters of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Kerry (Andy) McLellan of Sunderland, ON, Jeff (Melanie) McLauchlin of Keswick, ON, and Todd (Nathalie) McLauchlin of Woodbridge, ON; great-grandchildren, Drew, Bret, and Scot McLellan, Mitchell and Regan McLauchlin, and Connor McLauchlin; four brothers, Leonard of Winnipeg, Robert of Stoney Creek, ON, Ben (Berny) of Winnipeg, Larry (Colette) of Pasco, WA; sisters-in-law Kathleen Jorgenson, Pat Jorgenson, Jean Jorgenson, and Mabel Jorgenson; brother-in-law Roy (Dorothy) Mills; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Vera was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1983; her father George and mother Hilma; sister Audrey Mills; brothers George, Ed, Jack, Gordon, Morris, and Warner; and sisters-in-law Pat Jorgenson, Sadie Jorgenson, Pat Jorgenson, Frances Jorgenson, Kathern Jorgenson-Knight, Alice Saunders, and Anne Saunders. Vera was born in 1913 in Canora, SK, and in 1918 moved to Ste. Elizabeth, MB with her parents. She remained on the farm until she married Bill Saunders and moved to Winnipeg. Vera enjoyed many summers at the cottage she and Bill built at Nutimik Lake. When Bill retired they started spending their winters at Pine-to-Palm Park in Weslaco, TX where Vera continued to spend her winters after Bill's death. Being from a large family, Vera always enjoyed visits from family. She also enjoyed music, singing, and gardening - her special joys have been her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vera has been residing at St. Norbert Personal Care Home since 2000 where she was looked after by a wonderful caring staff. Vera has been cremated, and there will be a family interment at the Morris Cemetery. A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 709 St. Mary's Road, on Tuesday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Martha McDowell officiating.
