PETER L. FRIESEN

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER L. FRIESEN Peacefully, on February 3, 2006, at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, Peter L. Friesen, aged 93 years, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away. He was born on March 1, 1912 in the Morris area, where he was raised and received his education. Because of his strong faith, community and church involvement were important to him. He served as trustee on the local school board, on the Mennonite Collegiate Institute Board, as well as secretary-treasurer for the Mission Board of the Evangelical Mennonite Conference in its pioneer years. Dad was elected to the ministry in 1951, and was the pastor of the Rosenort Evangelical Church (EMC) from 1954 to 1974. He also served as moderator of the Evangelical Mennonite Conference for several years. During these years of ministry, Dad maintained his grain farming career. In 1969 Mom and Dad established a fabric business. They operated Riverside Economy Shop together until it closed in 1996. Peter L. Friesen will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gertie; five daughters, Dorothy (Menno) Kroeker, Alvira Friesen, Diana (Wayne) Fields, Donelda Friesen, and Val (Alf) Dyck; two sons, Wes (Alvina) and Stan; six grandchildren, Don Kroeker, David (Sheila) Kroeker, Leanne (Trevor) Olfert, Heidi (Bernard) Schellenberg, Amy (Eric) Unrau, and Jillayne Friesen; four great grandchildren, Ethan and Tate Olfert, Liam Unrau, and Kai Schellenberg; and one brother Dave L. Friesen. He was predeceased by his first wife Helen, and daughter Myrna Friesen. Viewing will be held at the Morris Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m., at the Rosenort EMC at 7:00 p.m., with a Devotional at 7:30 p.m., and at the church prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be held at the Rosenort EMC on Wednesday February 8 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of the Red River Valley Lodge for the compassionate care Dad received while staying there.
