Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I came to know Fr. Pruner while a young Lieutenant serving at Canadian Forces Station Sioux Lookout where "Fr. Don" was a military chaplain and frequent participant at the Officers' Club. While I wasn't Catholic, I planned in 1966 to marry my Catholic fiancĂ©e in the Roman Catholic Church, preferably in Winnipeg near our families. When consulted on the feasibility of this Fr. Pruner graciously offered to help. And help he did! Not only did he provide me with the requisite education in Catholic catechism, but contacted Monsignor James MacIsaac, then Rector of St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg, who agreed to perform the wedding ceremony. I have never forgotten and am ever grateful for Fr. Pruner's outstanding kindness, generosity and great sense of humour (also his patience while schooling me in catechism). The reason for this remembrance of Fr. Pruner now is that it is near the eve of my and my wife Clare's 50th wedding anniversary and while attempting to refresh my memory of Fr. Pruner, I happened upon this obituary. Thank you, Fr. Don. Sincerely, Jack Riley, LCol (Ret'd) Surrey, British Columbia - Posted by: Jack Riley, LCol (Ret'd) (Friend) on: Dec 27, 2016

  • Laughter, twinkling blue eyes, joyous energy...beloved friend. Dear, funny, cherished "Fov" whether it was giggling together as I escorted you down the aisle at grad or "toasting the bride" after officiating at my wedding you always make me feel so special. My eyes are filled with tears but my heart is filled with happiness knowing that you have reached your ultimate reward and are now in the hands of Our Father. Caddy and Cheersie will be so happy to see you! Love You Fov! - Posted by: Nancy Coakley (Friend) on: Feb 08, 2006

  • Our cherished friendship with "Father" began in 1971, at Sioux Lookout, as a result of his outstanding "Civilian Officiating Clergyman" service provided to our military families. That association quickly developed into a lasting friendship. We are thankful for the many happy memories. He will remain, always, in the hearts of our family. We extend our condolences to the Oblate Fathers and to Joan, Joe and the entire Pruner Family. - Posted by: Joan Byrne (Friend) on: Feb 07, 2006

  • Most wonderful "Fov." Seeing your picture after all of these years brings back so many wonderful memories. I can hear your voice. You used to let me sit with you on our gold recliner with me behind you combing your hair forward. It was sooo much fun! In the summers I remember you taking all of us kids to "Benny's beach."Thank you "Fov" for the warmth and love you gave my entire family. Nan was blessed to have you officiate her wedding. You were loved by so many and will never be forgotten. Rest in peace our most wonderful friend! - Posted by: Miriam Byrne (Friend) on: Feb 06, 2006
