ROSE GIBSON November 21, 1913 - February 03, 2006 It is with sadness that we announce the loss of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the age of 92. Rose passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital with her daughter at her side. Born to Patrick and Emily Hedges on November 21, 1913, she lived her entire life in St. Charles, marrying her next door neighbour, Lester, and settling near their family homes. She is survived by her three sisters, Vera, Mabel, Louise, and her brother, Bill. She is fondly remembered by her four sons, Wes (Marlene), Mel (Wilma), Dan (Arlene), Terry (Janis), and daughter Margaret (Phil). Mom took particular delight in the arrival of each of her 11 grandchildren - Richard, Ross, Shawn, Tara, Ian, Heather, Amanda, Shannon, Ashton, Matthew and Lesley. She leaves them many cherished memories of time spent together. In her latter years she cherished being presented with 9 wonderful great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Emily, her husband, Lester and her precious infant daughter, Florence Iva Jane, brothers, Charlie, Bert and Archie and her sister, Winnie. Mom will be remembered for her diligence and hard work. Setting high standards for herself and others, her strong work ethic lives on in all of us. She was a life long member of the St. Charles United Church where she was a teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday School for 53 years. As a member of the Women's Association she involved herself with baking, sewing, sales, and quilting. Her quilts grace the beds of many family members. Each new baby received a handmade quilt or blanket as a symbol of her love and affection. Her home and gardens kept her busy, her flowers being a delight to her and her neighbours. The hand of God was evident in her life. After dad passed away, she babysat her grandchildren, started a school-age daycare program for her neighbourhood school and opened her home to young Mounties from the Headingley detachment, many of whom she kept in touch with over the years. The coming of Unicity Mall right across the street afforded her the convenience of daily trips to shop, meet friends for coffee, and participate in the Seniors programs. She was fiercely independent and self reliant, making it difficult for her when her health began to decline. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses at the Grace Hospital who were so kind and caring as they helped Mom move comfortably to a better place. A celebration of Rose's life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Friday, February 10 at 3:00 p.m. followed by interment and a reception. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation to the St. Charles United Church, 673 Isbister St., R2Y 1P9 in her memory. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
