Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED LOUELLA HATLELID (nee JOHNSON) March 7, 1906 - February 4, 2006 On Saturday, February 4, 2006, Mildred Louella Hatlelid passed away peacefully one month prior to her 100th birthday at Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg, MB. Mildred is survived by her daughter Gail Fletcher (Allan) of Winnipeg; three grand-children, Gordon, Charlie and Jill Fletcher; and two great-grandchildren Tyler and Allana Fletcher. Mildred was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1953; son Jerry in 1963; parents, Hans and Anni Johnson; and eight other siblings On March 7, 1906, Mildred was born in Harlan, Iowa and immigrated to Meleval, SK with her family. She was educated in Saskatchewan and began a Teaching career in one-room schoolhouses at various locations in Saskatchewan. Mildred married Gordon Hatlelid in 1934. Gordon and Mildred moved to High Bluff and then to Portage la Prairie in 1943 and in 1946, purchased the East End Grocery in Portage. Mildred closed the store in 1960 and returned to teaching at the Portage Collegiate Institute until her retirement. Over the years, she was active in C.G.I.T., Sunday School, quilting, Bridge, handicrafts and tutoring mathematics well into her retirement. Mildred was a wonderful Mother, Grand-mother and Great-grandmother and will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends and relatives. A Celebration of Mildred's Life will be held on Thursday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road at Ness Avenue. Many thanks to all the staff of Golden West Centennial Lodge, particularly the staff of the fourth floor for their kindness, caring and compassion and for making Granny's life happy and comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Golden West Centennial Lodge or to a charity of one's choice.
