ANDREW POLLOCK September 8, 1930 - February 4, 2006 On Saturday, February 4, 2006, Andy passed away peacefully with his loving wife and family members by his side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Rosemarie; children, John (Marilyn), Andrea (Neale) and Michael (Susan); grandchildren, Matthew, Rebecca, Lesley, Nancy, Drew, Kimberly and Kyle; sisters, Jay, Betty, Donna; brother Nick as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father George; mother Dora; brothers, John, Mike, Tom, Alec, Fred and Sid; and sisters, Verona, Clara, Gertie and Kathleen; and son-in-law Jim Hamilton. Andy was born in Winnipeg on September 8, 1930. During his school years he was a member of many athletic teams including the Orioles Community Club Lacrosse Team. Upon graduation from Gordon Bell High School, Andy attended the University of Manitoba, after which he completed his Articles to become a Manitoba Land Surveyor. He married the love of his life, Rosemarie, on October 6, 1951 and thus began an incredible partnership of love and determination. Andy started his own surveying business, A. Pollock Land Surveyor, in 1954, which subsequently became Pollock and Wright Land Surveyors. Andy and Rose worked together to build a successful business while raising their four children until his retirement in 1990. Andy was particularly proud of being selected to survey the sports venues for the Pan American Games that were held in Winnipeg in 1967, the year that he was President of the Manitoba Land Surveyors Association. As a long time resident of Fort Garry, Andy played an active role in many community organizations. He was a family man who truly enjoyed involving himself in the many activities his children undertook. Andy particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the cottage on Lake of the Woods. He loved fishing, boating, bird watching and playing cards with the many friends and relatives who came to visit. His enthusiasm for life, gentle nature and dry wit will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at West Park Manor who took such good care of Andy during his time there. Flowers are gratefully declined. Remembrances can be made in Andy's memory to the West Park Manor Personal Care Home, 3199 Grant Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3R 1X2. A service to celebrate Andy's life will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I believe that who we are depends on our experiences in life; the people that we meet and the effects that they have on us. I am proud to say that I knew this man, and grateful for the memories that I have of him. If there is any small particle of who I am that resembles him in any way, I would be very happy. Thank you Andy. - Posted by: Gordon Pollock (Nephew) on: Oct 26, 2013
