Leona leaves behind her loving daughters Joanne Vielhaber (Willie), Tracy Olafson (Jeff) and son Glenn Holms as well as her wonderful grandchildren Robert, Matthew, Sean and Marlie. She also leaves behind her beloved friend, Stewart Holms, sisters, Lillian Pituley (Adolph), Elaine Bourassa, Maryanne Ekdahl (Wayne). Her love and pride for work and family extends to her many friends and colleagues as well as her nieces and nephews; Murray, Kevin, Rick, Debbie, Spencer, Janin, Kristen, Holly and Warren. Leona was born and raised on a farm near Rockglen, SK. After finishing high school at the age of 16, she moved to Winnipeg as St. Boniface Hospital accepted her for nurses training at the early age of 17. It was during training when she met, then married, Stu Holms. Later, she along with Dr. John Matas, established the first Methadone program in Manitoba at St. Boniface. She resided in Ontario for a few years and worked in a chemical dependency program at Homewood Sanitarium in Guelph. She returned home to Winnipeg and back to working at St. Boniface Hospital. Over the last 20 years, Leona became a world traveler, at first on her own and later with her sister, Elaine. Now, she has left on a final, fabulous journey.....Once again, on her own. A celebration of Leona's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. with Fr. Pierre Wood O.F.M. Cap. officiating. The family extends their most sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of H.S.C.-SICU for the wonderful care given to our Grandma Oni . A special thank-you to Dr. West for his care and compassion in these difficult months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be gratefully made to World Vision or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation for aneurysm research. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor- 338-0331
