LEO REIDKE On Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at peace and surrounded by his family, Leo passed away at the Riverview Health Centre. With the prayers, love and support of family and friends, he bravely fought a losing battle with Mesothelioma (Lung Cancer). Leo was born in Winnipeg on February 21, 1931, and is survived by his loving wife Jessie, and their children, Daniel (Marie), Lisa, Ruth (Gary), Allen (Stephanie); grandchildren, David, Kyle, Rhianne, Kristen, Adam, Justin, Aryel and Dalton; sister Elsie; sister-in-law Daphne (Cliff); brother-in-law Leslie (Margaret); sister-in-law Betty; many nieces and nephews and special friends Emil Mathae and Max McCartney. Leo's working career began as a machinist with the City of Winnipeg where he spent almost 25 years. A passion for photography inspired Leo and his wife Jessie to open their own business, Reidke Photography Ltd. where Leo went on to become a distinguished photographer, well known in Winnipeg for his portraiture. He spent many happy hours teaching photography in school and any time someone asked. He was an avid motorcycle rider for many years, enjoying the sport of road riding, racing and trails. The centre of Leo's life was his faith. As a member of the Lutheran Church all of his life, he served as President, Sunday School Teacher and Confirmation Teacher. After retiring, he enjoyed making beautiful intarsia pieces, time on the computer with all of his email buddies, and of course his music. His home away from home was the Good Neighbors Senior Centre. He served as President and a board member among other things, but especially loved meeting friends. He was also a member of Millennium Gardens where he spent a lot of time. Leo had an incredible ability to encourage people to learn or try new things. He was an idea person and he made things happen. Leo enjoyed a zest for life, and at the end of this amazing journey, looked forward to meeting his Lord and Saviour and beginning a new journey. Special thanks from Leo and the Family to all of the wonderful friends who brightened his day with cards, calls, flowers, visits and emails. Thanks also the the caring staff and volunteers at Cancer Care and the Riverview Health Centre. If friends wish, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare (Mesothelioma), 695 McDermot Ave., Room 1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Leo's life will be held on Monday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberley Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler @ Henderson Hwy. 668-3151

  • So sorry -Long remembered - Posted by: Patricia and Larry (Family) on: Jun 18, 2017

  • Remember Mr Reidke as he did our wedding and engagement photos through a most difficult time as my husband had his appendix out the day before. He helped make a tough day bearable. When he became ill he was kind enough to give us our negatives which is so much appreciated. Thanks for being a great businessman, we did not know him personally but we sure appreciated his professionalism. - Posted by: Allison Pauls (Customer) on: Oct 23, 2013
