Liberato was born on July 29, 1923 in Taranto, Italy. He was born into a family of five sisters. Liberato came to Canada in 1953 in pursuit of his dreams. He worked primarily in the field of construction. He left his mark on many major structures both in Winnipeg and Calgary. Liberato took great pride in his work. Shortly after immigrating to Canada, he began to correspond with the woman that would become his life partner for 48 years; Lucia (Trotta). They soon expanded their family to three boys. Family meant everything to Liberato. He was a very dedicated family man. He worked very hard to provide the best for his wife and children. Liberato was predeceased by his son, Tony, in 1991 which devastated him, breaking his heart. They are now together again along with numerous extended family in Canada and Italy. He is survived by his loving wife Lucia; daughter-in-law Emily (Franco Atanasovic); granddaughter Lucy (Kevin Mann); grandson Robbie; son Michele (Sandy Peterson), son Riccardo (Marianne); sisters, Maria, Mina (Angelo), Lucia (Pietro); sisters-in-law, Vincenza Storione, Anna Trotta, Vincenza Trotta; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Liberato suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for the last eight years, which is commonly known as the long goodbye . His wife and family enjoyed their many visits and took great pleasure from the essence of his personality, which never really left him, along with his appetite for home-cooked meals - pasta being his favourite. Many thanks to the staff at SMHC, Unit E15 who took such great care of Papa during his illness. The family felt comforted knowing he was in such good care. A very special thank you to the staff at SGH Medicine. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, February 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Avenue, with Father Sam Argenziano presiding.
