MARIA (MARY) ANDERSON (nee TKACHYK) It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Mary Anderson on Monday, February 13, 2006 at Emerson Health Centre. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Eric, brother William and sister Elsie. Left to cherish her memory are her son Eric (Lorrie), sister Helen (Nick), grandchildren, Rayna (Daniel) and Evan. Born on a farm in southern Manitoba, she joined the army at a young age and travelled across Canada selling war bonds. This sparked an interest in travel and meeting new people that lasted a lifetime. After the war, she met Eric, her future husband, at a hospital and they remained inseparable until his death in 1995. After she earned her driver's licence in 1950, Mary did something unthinkable for young women of that era, she drove a taxi. This allowed her to earn enough money to put herself through hairdressing school. Once she completed her education, her entrepreneurial spirit drove her to open a beauty parlour in her home. Her work always ensured that she was surrounded by people. Mary was always willing to open her home to friends and acquaintances. One of her main passions in life was fishing. She appreciated the camaraderie it provided and the chance to enjoy the outdoors, continuing to make trips up North until her late 70s. She also took up knitting in her later years, often making hats for CancerCare. Thank you to the staff at Emerson Health Centre for treating her as part of their family. Many thanks to all her friends and neighbours who continued to visit her frequently at the hospital and to the volunteers who kept her company during the long days of her stay. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Emerson, MB. According to her wishes, she has been cremated. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to the charity of your choice. Mary is now free to travel with Eric like they used to. Wheeler Funeral Chapel 224-1525
