Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN ISABEL ROACH It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Isabel Roach, late of North Battleford, SK on February 9, 2006. Helen Roach (nee Toland) was born on March 14, 1908 at Owen Sound, ON. She came west in 1911 when her parents decided to try farming in the Swift Current area. After her mother succumbed to the Spanish Influenza in 1918, the family moved several times, so that Helen attended school in Grand Coulee, Lumsden, Edenwold, Melville and Yorkton Comprehensive High School from which she graduated. Helen became a teacher and taught in schools near Mont Nebo, Sturgeon Valley and Edam. Though she did not know him, she came to Edam in 1928 on the same train as her future husband, Jack (John). Jack and Helen were married in 1934, a union which produced four boys. One son Thomas, died in infancy; surviving are Ken (Dorothy) of Kindersley, Norman (Phyllis) of North Battleford, Donald (Sherrill) of Clandeboye, MB, there are nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Audrey, Crossfield, AB and Sylvia, Winnipeg, MB; her brother Ken, Winnipeg; numerous nieces and nephews. In 1958, Jack and Helen quit farming and headed to Clandeboye to keep store. Retirement took them to Chilliwack, then to Kelowna, where Jack is buried, and where Helen will now join him. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14 from Sallows McDonald Funeral Home, North Battleford, SK with Rev. Fred Tinio officiating. Pallbearers were Malcolm Roach, Pat Roach, Kory Roach, Jordan Roach, Laureen Schan and Maureen Dobranski. The family have requested that memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor's Choice. Interment took place at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Kelowna, BC on Thursday, February 16. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sallows McDonald Funeral Home, North Battleford, SK.
