IRMA RUTH WRIGHT (VAN CAMP) Her family announces the peaceful passing of our sister and aunt on Sunday, February 12, 2006. She slipped quietly away with two of her nieces holding her hands and other family in attendance. Irma is survived by her brother Bob Van Camp (Marjorie), her sister Arleigh Frego, cousin Olive Bryce and three generations of nieces and nephews in the Wright, Van Camp and Frego families. She will be especially remembered by Tyler and Lindsey Frego. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John Wright, her elder sister Gwen, her parents and her in-laws. Irma was born in 1915 in Roblin, Manitoba, the second child of four to R.S. and Olive Van Camp. The family moved to St. Vital in 1924. Irma attended St. Vital schools and graduated from St. Josephs Academy (pictured above). She attended Normal School 1933 - 1934 and began her teaching career in Sprague, followed by several years in St. Vital. In October 1940, she married John L. Wright, and moved with him to Minitonas, where he was school principal. In 1945, they moved to Winnipeg and she eventually joined the staff of Winnipeg School Division. She taught until 1974, and was especially proud to be one of the first pilot teachers for the Major Work Program for accelerated learning at the intermediate level. After retirement she and John enjoyed several winters in Texas and trips to Ireland and Scotland. For over 35 years their home on Kingston Crescent was a favourite haunt for friends and relatives. All family members remember with much fondness the gracious hostess that she was and the great times with her and Uncle John in The Pit . Irma's favourite pastimes were conversation and reading. She delighted in the accomplishments of family members and provided great counsel when things were not going well. She loved poetry and her brother Bob remembers one of her favourite snippets: There is a sweet music here That softer falls than petals From blown roses on the grass. Music that gentlier upon the spirit lies Than tired eyelids upon tired eyes She bore the ravages of dementia with dignity, courage and great humour. Family members are forever grateful for the care she received at Golden Links Lodge. The staff gave her exemplary care and we thank you most sincerely. As per her wishes, she has been cremated and her ashes will join those of her beloved husband John. She will be committed by her family in celebration of her birthday in May. If friends so choose, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, or The Golden Links Lodge, 2280 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg. Glen Lawn Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
