IDA MARY MAINMAN November 9, 1912 - February 10, 2006 It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Ida Mary Mainman on Friday, February 10, 2006, at the Thorvaldson Care Centre, in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1994, and leaves to cherish her memory her seven children and their families, Shirley and Paul Lindsay of Winnipeg, Gerald and Elaine of Milwaukee, Eric and Kathy of Edmonton, Elizabeth and Ross Bird of New Westminster, Diane and Tom Boyd of Surrey, Debbie and Robert Jackson of Steinbach, and Michael and Cheryl of Winnipeg. She had a very special place in her heart for her 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. As well, Ida leaves her sister, Dorothy Babcock of Neepawa, brother Peter Griffiths of Toronto, and numerous sisters-in-law. Ida was born in England in 1912 and immigrated to Canada in 1927 with her family to Birnie, MB where the family homesteaded for many years. There she met Tom and they were married in 1932. They were happily married for 62 years and lived most of those years in Fort Garry. Ida was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist and St. Paul's Anglican churches. She was a Life Member of the ACW. Ida was a very kind and gentle friend to her many long-time neighbours and friends. Family gatherings were very special to Ida, especially the Mainman family reunions which were held every three years attended by all her children and their families. The last reunion took place in August, 2005, when Mom enjoyed every minute surrounded by her loving family. The family would like to express a special thank you to all the caregivers at Thorvaldson's Care Centre as well as the Home Care staff who cared for Mom. A private family service is planned at Mom's request. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Mom's memory to the charity of their choice. Mom was a gentle, caring, loving person and she had a very special sense of pride and love for her family. We all cherish the example she set for us to follow in our lives. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. In particular, Mom and Grandma will always be remembered for her famous chocolate chip cookies and shortbread. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I remember Ida and Tom so well for their kindness to us small children living next door on Grierson Avenue. Ida would have us in for chocolate chip cookies and Tom took great pleasure in teasing us and making us laugh. We moved away in 1977 after our mother's passing from cancer, but I never forgot about "Mr. and Mrs. Mainman" and how wonderfully kind they were to us. - Posted by: Michelle Mark (Neighbour) on: Feb 27, 2024
