UDO FUITH Surrounded by family, Udo Fuith passed away peacefully February 15, 2006, in San Antonio, TX. He fought a hard battle with cancer. Udo is survived by his wife Heidi, and from his first marriage to Roselind daughter Kersten, her husband Hart, granddaughter Sasha; and son Jason, his wife Laurie and grandson Aidan; Udo's mother Maria, brothers Dieter, Lothar; and sister Alice. He is also survived by stepchildren Jennifer and Frederick. Udo was predeceased by his daughter Kim and father Franz. Growing up in rural Austria, Udo learned early about playing hard and working hard. Few townspeople were immune to his practical jokes and who else but Udo could sell old black bananas at a fruit stand for more than the fresh ones. On a visit to see his grandfather in Winnipeg, Canada in 1964, Udo met his first wife Roselind. A short while later they were married and had their first child Kersten. To provide for his family Udo took on several jobs at a time, in addition to completing his degree in Education at the University of Manitoba in 1968. Although he only taught until 1974, the impact he had on his students has lasted until today. In 1974 he developed a keen interest in real estate development which he pursued successfully throughout the rest of his life. In 1999 Udo had the good fortune to meet the woman who would soon become his wife. Heidi saved him from Winnipeg winters to enjoy the warmth of San Antonio, TX. He enjoyed tormenting all of us with this fact as we suffered -30 degree temperatures. Married for 6 years, Udo and Heidi built a strong and loving partnership, personal as well as professional. They enjoyed working hard together and the benefits of that work which included countless trips to many exotic places in the world. In August 2005, Udo was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. With only a few months to live, Udo took on one more challenge - to beat the odds. At Christmas we thought we had a miracle with repeated reports of major improvement - With the prayers and support of family and many friends, Udo felt he was winning the fight. However in January the news changed, and it is with great sadness that we lost our father, husband, grandfather and good friend on Wednesday. Udo lived and loved life to the fullest. He was not afraid to take great risks, experienced defeat as well as great success. At the centre always was family. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Visitation will be at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Alamo Funeral Chapels Cemeteries, 624 N. Alamo, San Antonio, TX. Funeral service will be held February 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo St., San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
