Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY KATHLEEN YUAR October 11, 1912 - February 15, 2006 Passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital at the age of 93. Kay was predeceased by her loving husband Sam, her brother Raymond Girling and her parents, Joseph and Mary Girling. She is survived by her sister-in-law Annette Yuar of Ottawa and good friends, Ted and June Wallis. Kay was born and grew up on a farm near Basswood, MB. She and her brother Raymond were talented musicians and were members of a band in Basswood. She played guitar and piano while Raymond played the violin. They played for local dances and gatherings. Kay was also a skillful needlewoman and made many crafts including rugs, quilts and doilies. Kay attended Basswood Consolidated School and Success Business College in Winnipeg where she became proficient in shorthand and typing. Kay secured a job with Revenue Canada in Winnipeg where she became a Section Head and worked for nine years. She met her husband Sam while they worked for Revenue Canada and they married November 5, 1949 and celebrated 50 anniversaries. They enjoyed golf and curling and took many enjoyable vacations in Minaki, California, the Caribbean and Hawaii, which was their favourite destination. Their home was often the location for get togethers with their workmates as their large rec room was equipped with a tile dance floor, a superior stereo system and a well stocked bar. Kay was a most fastidious housekeeper, cook and homemaker and kept a comfortable home for herself and Sam until April of 2001 when they could no longer look after themselves. Sam became a resident at Poseidon Personal Care Facility until he passed away January 9, 2002 and Kay moved to Rosewood Village. Special thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospital for their kind and compassionate care during Kay's last hours. Also a warm thank you to the staff and extended health care workers at Dogwood House at Rosewood Village who so patiently looked after her daily needs. She appreciated the appetizing, colourful meals provided, the bus trips and other entertainments and was especially fond of the Elvis impersonator. Cremation has taken place and a gathering of friends will be held on Wednesday, February 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay's memory to the charity of your choice.
