Date of Passing: Feb 15, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY CLARE SCHMIDT (nee DOWLING) Peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, Clare Schmidt passed away in Misericordia Place at the age of 73. Clare was predeceased by her husband William; parents Joseph and Marie Dowling; brothers, Lawrence, Christopher, Clifford; and sister-in-law Evelyn Dowling. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughter Patricia (Darryl) Bukoski; and son Brian (Judy) Schmidt; grandchildren, Pamela, Mark, Gregory, Robert and Christopher; brother Jack Dowling (Rita); sisters-in-law, Ida and Edith Dowling; brother-in-law Fred Schmidt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A woman of many talents, Clare was well known for her hospitality, generosity, baking, and abundant energy. Family and friends meant the world to her and she surrounded herself with them. For decades, Clare's home was operation central for countless large and magnificent Sunday dinners and social gatherings for all occasions. The ultimate multitasker, Clare had the uncanny ability to knit complicated sweater patterns with great speed and accuracy while simultaneously watching a movie and talking on the phone. Unfortunately, in recent years Alzheimer disease robbed her of these talents one-by-one; however, we now take consolation in the knowledge that Clare is free from the bonds of that disease. We extend sincere thanks to Drs. B. Shah and B. Campbell, and the staff of Misericordia Place Personal Care Home for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided over the past five years. Their patience and kindness is very much appreciated. Prayers will be said on Sunday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with Rev. Joseph McLellan. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Brebeuf Parish Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl., with Monsignor David Ward Jamieson the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
