KATHLEEN (KAY) CLARK
Date of Passing: Feb 15, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN (KAY) CLARK It is with sadness, we announce the passing of Kay Clark on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Fred and her parents Lauretta and John Sanders. Kay is survived by her son John Stanley Stan who resides at the Tache Nursing Centre. Kay was born in Ft. Frances and moved to Brandon with her parents and then to Winnipeg. She married Fred Clark and they settled in the Riverview area. Kay's life could perhaps best be described as a life of commitment and service in her employment, family and community. Essentially a private person, she brought a quiet sense of dignity, strength and purpose to all endeavours. Always open to new ideas, Kay would seek out information to apply to current situations. Her close friends mention the sense of loyalty, integrity and an undemanding nature that Kay brought to personal relationships. Her early career included office work in a bank and when Fred passed on this necessitated Kay's return to the work place. She was employed by the Dept. of National Defense as a communicator for 15 years and retired 10 years ago. Kay's love of children and a love of crafting naturally led her to the Girl Guides of Canada. She was a Brown Owl Brownie Leader from 1959 - 1972 and also served a term as District Commissioner. Raising her own son did not diminish her sense of commitment to her community and she later became a member of the first Winnipeg Trefoil Guild (1982 - present) and in 2003 she earned her 50 year pin. Kay was held in high esteem by many she taught and often enjoyed a visit with former students. Kay's interests included a love of reading (for pleasure and learning); gardening (it was a great joy for Kay to have her flower garden in continuous bloom throughout early spring and summer - always anticipating and appreciating the beauty of the blossoms and of course, often experimenting with new ones); sewing (Kay sewed many of her own clothes); knitting and crocheting ( Kay's white Christmas tree covered in white crocheted snowflakes was beautiful); crossword puzzles; cooking - until recently she would try one new recipe a week. Kay , too was always abreast of special celebrations - Valentine's Day, Halloween, etc. and decorated her home and Stan's room at Tache. Stan, as a young man, was a source of great help and support to his mom and in more recent years, this role was reversed. Kay will undoubtedly be remembered by her friends for her unselfish devotion to Stan. A lover of animals, particularly dogs, it was a standard routine to see Kay out walking with Duchess, her more recent pet. On weekends, when Stan would be home to visit, their presence contributed much to the neighborly atmosphere of the community. This is a tribute to a dear friend, neighbour and mother. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
