JOYCE LOUISE SMITH (nee MCCULLOCH) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the accidental death of our beloved mother and grandmother, Joyce Smith on February 17, 2006. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Gordie Smoot Smith in September 1999. She is survived by her son Greg Smith (Judie Yarish), Jill (Brian) Coulter and Allison (Rob) Stephanson. She is especially missed by her grandchildren, Kim, Taylor, Harrison and Brooklyn Smith, Terra Coulter and Mitch and Brady Stephanson. She will be sadly missed by her brothers, Cal (Ada) McCulloch, Rick (Pat) McCulloch of Calgary and her sister Shirley Birch who was always there for her. Joyce was born on June 23, 1931 and raised in Winnipeg where she attended United Nurses College. She graduated in 1952 and then married the love of her life in 1953. She was an excellent nurse who had a passion for life and people. Through nursing, Joyce formed many life-long friends who were by her side through the trials and tribulations of her life. She loved to entertain and was always a superb hostess. Many people fondly remember the great parties she and Gordie had. Her children's friends could always be found at the Smith household where they were always treated like part of the family. Her children were always the focus in her life and she especially enjoyed watching them play sports. She was constantly cheering them on from the sidelines. She will always be tenderly remembered for her kindness to others. She was non-judgmental and always made people feel welcome in her home and in her life. A special thanks to the extraordinary care provided by the amazing home care workers, and the special attention provided by Dr. Sharkey. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will no service. Friends that wish to pay their respects are invited to join the family for a celebration of Joyce's life on Saturday, March 11 at 326 Kingston Cres. from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. I'm Free Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God has laid you see. I took His hand when I heard His call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found the peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, O yes, these things I too will miss, Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, A loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee, God wanted me now; He set me free. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway 783-7211
