IRENE MCLEAN Irene McLean passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2006 in the St. Boniface Hospital in her 94th year, beloved wife of the late Alex McLean. She was predeceased by her parents Percy and Mary Carter, a sister Babs Drawson, brother Ted Carter, and sister Nellie Bethel. She was stepmother to Bonnie (Al) Pirch, Wendy (Brian) White and Donald McLean. Also loved by stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; dear aunt to Bill Bethel, Blair Drawson and Georgina Dawson, Cathy, Graydon and Gary Carter. She will also be missed by many great nieces and nephews. Irene was born in Moose Jaw and later worked as a Morse operator for C.N. Telegraphs until her retirement in 1972. She was Chief Petty Officer in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) during the Second World War and was awarded the British Empire Medal by King George VI. She and Alex were married in 1971 and after their retirements, they lived at Hillside Beach, MB and travelled extensively during the winters. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Friends of Assiniboine Park.
