ROMAN TKACHYK It is with greatest sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Roman Tkachyk on February 15, 2006. He was predeceased by his wife Neilda in 1995 and leaves to cherish his memory, son Terry of Neepawa; son Rick; wife Melodie of Elm Creek; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Karla; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was the son of Nick Tkachyk and Magdalena (Kostiuk). He was predeceased by brother Steve in 2001 and leaves to mourn brothers, Anton (Mary), Matt (Doris), Walter (Helen); sister Martha Sontag (Adam); and sister-in-law Pat Tkachyk. Roman was raised at Dufrost, MB and attended Dufrost School. He grew up helping his mother and father with farming. In 1942, he moved with the family to Mill Creek District, where the family farmed until 1950. At this time, the family moved to the Culross area and continued farming. Roman married Neilda in 1951 and the family lived in Transcona until moving to Elm Creek in 1958. Roman held part-time jobs at Arne's Welding and White's Trucking in Winnipeg and Chabot Farm Implements in Elie, Manitoba. In 1953, he started his own business with Northstar Oil (which was later taken over by Shell Oil) as a bulk fuel manager and continued farming north of Elm Creek. He retired from Shell Oil in 1980. Earlier hobbies included overhauling engines and playing banjo as well as curling, listening to music and attending dances, hunting and fishing as evidenced by the numerous trophies and taxidermy mounts displayed in his home. He also enjoyed participating in service organizations, including Kinsmen, Masons and the Royal Canadian Legion. The family wishes to convey their thanks to Drs. Kruk, Zacharias and Hobson, as well as the nurses and staff at the Carman Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Carman Hospital Health Auxiliary, Box 274, Carman, MB R0G 0J0. CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
