DR. JACK H. COHEN Peacefully, with his family at his side on February 18, 2006, Jack Cohen passed away at the age of 94. Jack is now sharing eternal peace with his loving wife Sarah. Jack will be sadly missed by his sister Jen Boxer; his children, Arthur Michael (Debbie), Analyn Cohen Baker (Neil); his grandchildren, Daniel Baker and Sarah Cohen, nieces, nephews and one dog (Daisy). Jack was born on November 1, 1911 in Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1934 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He attended the University of Alberta Faculty of Dentistry and graduated in 1943. In 1945, after the war, Jack reunited with Sarah Lack and was married in 1946 at the Royal Alexandra Hotel. He lived in Winnipeg the remainder of his life. Jack Cohen was once described as an interesting man who was always interested. He had many avocations, but perhaps his most notable was his genuine concern and interest for other people. His dental practice in Transcona focused on the person first, and Jack was beloved by patients and colleagues. Jack was a champion amateur bowler, winning a car many years ago with his team in Minneapolis. He enjoyed curling, gardening, lawn bowling, reading, theatre, opera, baseball, and dogs. Jack was a man of faith and a man of integrity. He was also a man of community being a founding member of the former Rosh Pina Synagogue, a Freemason, a Kiwanian and a board member of the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel. At age 94, Jack continued to be involved in life, attending Synagogue twice a week and a film class at the University of Winnipeg. Jack was a modest, humble man who was an inspiration to those around him. He gave without being asked, and he asked for little. Jack's will to live, perennial optimism and love of life, will be a guide to those who knew and loved him for years to come. The family would like to thank Dr. David Wiseman, all of the home care staff who assisted Jack over the last 15 years, and the staff on Unit 8 fourth floor of the Seven Oaks Hospital. We would also like to thank Steven Feldgaier, Alice and Bill Weissmann and his caregiver Anna Tan. Funeral services for Jack Cohen were held on Monday, February 20 at the Etz Chayim Synagogue. Pallbearers were Neil Baker, Daniel Baker, Lorne Colish, Martin Lack, Donald Weidman, and Bill Weissmann. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sarah and Jack Cohen Fund, in care of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400 - 123 Doncaster, Winnipeg, MB R3N 2B2 or Pet Rescue Shelter 3062 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Y1, or a charity of your choice.
