Peacefully, on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at the Pine Falls Hospital with his family at his side, John Cowley passed away at the age of 72 years. John was born at Black Island on February 16, 1934 and had resided in Hollow Water his entire life. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting and working his trap line. John was also a commercial fisherman on Lake Winnipeg for many years, he was also a miner at Bissett gold mine in the late 60s. John loved the community, he opened up a grocery and restaurant business which he ran very successfully, he also had horses and rabbits as a source of income. John worked at the school when it was being constructed and later sitting as a school committee member. He favourite pastime was to watch the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs on TV. John leaves to cherish his beautiful memory his sons, Larry (Doreen), Albert (Matilda), Robert (Jennifer), Michael (Marie); brothers, Ted (Mary), Ralph; sisters, Berma (Leslie) Bushie, Janet (Raymond) Cook; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife Susan Cowley on March 7, 2004, father John Cowley Sr. November 15, 1989, Harriet Cowley January 21, 1985, brothers Andy Cowley October 13, 1988, James Cowley August 29, 2003, sister Georgina Contin July 1, 1990. Wake services will be held on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 23, 24, 25 and 26 at Hollow Water Community Hall. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hollow Water Community Hall with Fr. Gerry officiating. Interment to follow at the Catholic Church Cemetery with a feast to follow at the community hall. Special thanks to Dr. Lambert, nurses Shauna and Bella Malo and staff for their medical help, kindness and care given during Dad's illness and stay at the hospital.
