WALTER (VLADIMIRO) KOREN It is with great sadness the Koren Family announces the passing of Walter Koren on February 5 , 2006 in Udine, Italy at the age of 91 years old. Walter Koren was born on January 5, 1915 in Kred, Slovenia. He is survived by his wife Ersilia and sons, Danilo of Italy, Carlo, wife Brenda, children, Brittany, Preston and Baylea of Denver, CO, Franc, wife Carol and children, Shane and Justin of Kelowna, BC. His family was at his side at the time of his passing. Walter Koren spent many years in the Winnipeg business community as a well known hotel owner and was active in local community affairs. He was proud to claim Winnipeg as his home for many years before retiring in Italy close to his birth place. Walter was a concentration camp survivor and immigrated to Canada in 1950 to seek a better life for his wife and family after escaping from Yugoslavia. He was a popular figure in the European community especially within Slovenian cultural activities. The Koren family would like to thank the many friends and associates of Walter for all of their support over the years and for their kindness and words of condolences during a most difficult time.
