KJARTAN FRIDFINNSON On February 22, 2006, in peace and serenity, Kjartan Fridfinnson passed away at his home in Geysir, MB with his devoted family at his side. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Lillian; his children, Ivan (Christina), Roger (Darlene), Lois, Wanda (Robin), Debbie (Morley), Dianne (Stanley), Brenda (Bradley); grandchildren, Vanessa (Kevin), Amanda (Kurt), Kent, Vinny, Sheena, Sally, Keith (Amanda), Michael, Bricey, Heather, Evan, Dayna, Nicole, Adam, Derek, Jared, Aliya, Mitchell; and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Ryan. Also to mourn are Kjartan's siblings, Vordis, Numi, Skafti (Norma), Junius; and sister-in-law Grace. He will be missed by in-laws, Emily, Oscar, Robert (Gladys), Inga, Florence, Doris (Oli) and Joan (Allen). Kjartan had a special place in his heart for his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Kristmundur and Jakobina; brother Leifur; and in-laws, Dora, Alice, Joyce, Leonard, Walter and Einar. Kjartan was born on October 14, 1928 at his home in Geysir. He attended Island School and worked alongside his brothers on the farm until he married Lillian Gudmundson in 1952. They established their farm one mile north of the original homestead, where they lived until his passing. In addition to farming, Kjartan became an accomplished carpenter and built many homes in the Arborg area. He built the Laufus School, the last public one-room country school made in Manitoba. Dad took pride in his work, and could often be found inspecting the construction of every building he encountered. He loved being out on the farm during calving season and in the hayfields during summer. He loved his land. Kjartan valued education and was always reading and learning. He liked reciting the songs and poems from his childhood. Kjartan was a soft-hearted and generous person, and a wonderful husband, father, Afi, Langavi and brother. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His family and friends loved him for his gentle nature and his quirky sense of humour. His children and grandchildren will miss his head scratches, his ear nuzzles and his kid pestering. He was full of life and energy, and lived his life to the end on his own terms, with honesty and integrity. We will miss him so much. The family would like to thank everyone for their support during Kjartan's illness. Your visits meant so much to him. In celebration of his life, the family would like to invite relatives and close friends to a memorial service at the Geysir Hall on Monday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Arborg Hospital. neil bardal inc. 949-2200
