WILLIAM ARTHUR HARRIS 1916 - 2006 Peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre, on Thursday, February 23, 2006, William passed away with his family at his side. William was born in Clarkleigh, MB on November 1, 1916. In his younger years he enjoyed working around the farm as well as playing hockey and baseball. In January of 1942, William enlisted in the Royal Canadian Ordanance Corp. He served over seas from December 1942 to January 1946 in England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. William was discharged March 27, 1946. Upon his return to Canada, William obtained his Journeyman Plumbers and Pipe Fitters ticket. He was a member of Local 254 for over 50 years. William married Kristveig Lillian Backman on August 2, 1947. Together they started their family of seven children and enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage. He was a strong provider and encouraged all of his children and grandchildren to be very active in sports. He was a long time Rangers fan and was an enthusiastic spectator. William was a member of the St. James Legion and belonged to the Whist Club for a number of years. William was predeceased by his parents, John and Eva Harris; brothers, Lynn and Cliff; and his beloved grandson Kevin. He is survived by one sister Myrtle Paterson. William is loved and remembered by his wife Lillian; Lloyd (Beverly), Keith, Karen with children, Dylan and Ryan, Donna McDonald, Rodney (Lisa Hardess), Beverley (Abe) Fuhl, Kristine (Mike) Rolsky, Cheryl, Caroline, Dianne (Karl) Sproll, Karl Jr., Erik, Ingrid, Elaine (Kenneth) Anderson, Judy (Ben) McDonald, Gord (Heather), Kerry and Lauren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. The family would like to make special mention of William's nephew Doug, for his many enjoyable visits that they shared. To the staff at Deer Lodge on T5 and T3 with special thanks to Jerry on T5 for brightening William's days with his Karioke. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca.
