ROBERT (BOB) UNWIN Peacefully, on Thursday, February 23, 2006, at the Deer Lodge Centre, Bob passed away surrounded by his family, at the age of 82. We, the family take comfort in knowing that Dad and Mom are together once again. Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter Nancy Claeys (Bob); sons, Glen (Michelle) and Gordon (Helena); grandchildren, Michelle Bell (Gary) and Shannon Claeys (Travis Golby); stepgrandchildren, Kersten and Colton Fisher; sister Merle Galbraith (Fred); sister-in-law Agathe McLeod; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Bob was predeceased by his wife Josephine Jo ; his parents; infant daughter Janice; brothers, Art (Rose), Alf (Mima) and Norman; and sister Emy. Bob was born on July 21, 1923 in St. Boniface, MB. He attended King George V School and graduated from Norwood Collegiate. Throughout his youth he enjoyed playing baseball and hockey. He joined the RCAF in 1941 and took his basic training in Calgary. Bob then flew with Ferry Command running supplies in the Second World War. He travelled to places such as Cairo, Bermuda and England. After the war, Bob returned home and in 1946, he married Jo and together they raised their family in Norwood. He then began his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs, retiring in 1984 after 39 years. Dad enjoyed golf, the numerous family camping trips, and renting cottages at Clear Lake and Detroit Lakes. Bob and Jo enjoyed their retirement years wintering in Florida and Victoria. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 28 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family would like to thank Dr. J. Wong and all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Deer Lodge Centre for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or to a charity of one's choice.
