ALEX LONGBOTTOM September 4, 1938 - February 24, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Longbottom, with his wife (my baby) and family at his side. Alex will be lovingly remembered and sorrowfully missed by his wife Laverne; children Treva, Penny (Jarmo), Michelle (Dave), Tammy (Dan), Jamie (Camille); son-in-law Oliver, and their mother Lorraine. Also mourning his loss is his stepchildren Ken Jr. (Carla), Patrick (Dara), Kevin (Karla); grandchildren Oliver Jr., Crystal (Mike), Rena, Remi, Amanda, Carl, Ryan, Becky, Dustin, Vanessa, Tyler, Levi, Jamie-Lee, Alex, Preston and Tyson (his bannock helpers), Amy, Colin, Frankie, Miss Paige Taylor, and Braden. As well as his brothers George (Scotty) and Eddy (Doodes); sisters-in-law Shelley (Bill) and Mabel; brother-in-law Gene (Hilda); and numerous nephews, nieces and friends whom he was very close to. Alex was predeceased by his parents George and Christina; brother Jim; infant sister Alice and his sister Margaret. Alex was born in Selkirk on September 4, 1938, and grew up at the family homestead at the mouth of the Brokenhead River. As a child the family moved to Scanterbury and he attended school at Stony Point. Alex worked in Winnipeg for a while and then left to work in Northern Communities which he loved. He retired to Scanterbury where he enjoyed his fishing, hunting and golfing at Mars Hills. He also joined the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #420 as well as the Over 60 Club where spent many afternoons playing cards with friends. We extend sincere thanks to Dr. Demsas and all the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and especially the Palliative Care staff for all their patience, care and support for the family. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 1st, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Donations can be made in Alex's memory to Palliative Care (785-7410), c/o Selkirk General Hospital, Box 5000, Selkirk, MB, R1A 2M2. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
