Date of Passing: Dec 22, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN HORACE SEXTON Those he has left behind will forever remember a husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend. After living a very full life John passed away February 26, 2006 in Gimli Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Hazel Barbara, December 22, 2003; and daughter Denise Barbara, February 1954. He leaves behind his son Phillip (Rita Lalonde); three daughters, Dreen (Ken), Paulette (Richard) and Sharon (Raymond); ten grandchildren, Candace, Neil, Timmy, Kevin, Brent, Susan, Kyle, Grant, Cynthia, Leigh; and 19 great-grandchildren. John was one of ten children and is survived by his sister Catherine Howe and brother Bernard Sexton. He is predeceased by his sisters, Julia Johnson, Margaret Corlett, Theresa Ewachewski, Dorothy Ware; and brothers, William, Charles and Vincent. He was born in Winnipeg in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in August 1941 and returned to civilian duty when the Second World War ended. His life centered around raising five children and participating in the building of a business with his wife Hazel. He had a special place in his heart for his two granddaughters, Susan and Candace, who enjoyed spoiling him. He was a very determined person; he worked hard and played hard. Mom and Dad always looked forward to their winter holiday south of the border. In their younger years, boating, traveling, dancing and shopping was the order of the day. In the last few years, however, their winter holidays continued but a little less active. Up until just a few years ago, Dad was active in the Khartum Temple Drum and Bugle Corps. Mom and Dad retired to Sandy Hook and they socialized and volunteered their time at the Gimli Legion. John had his family close to him when he went on his final journey. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. C. Chapnick and the staff at the Gimli Community Health Centre. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, March 2, 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion #182, Gimli, MB Arrangements by: Birchwood Funeral Chapel Steinbach Winnipeg, MB 1-888-454-1030 or 1-204-346-1030
