E. EDOUARD (ED) MAILHOT It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing, at home, of E. Edouard (Ed) Mailhot, beloved husband of Joy and loving father of Michael and Gabrielle. He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren John, Leanne and Kiersten, his mother Rose (Roly), his sisters, Claudette (Nelson), Suzanne (Al), Michelle and his brother Georges (Bina), mother-in-law, Margaret Bayliss, sisters-in-law, Judy (Don) and Lorna (Charles) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ever courageous, Ed met life with all its challenges head on. Simply put, he never gave up - on anything! His devoted 33 year career in the TD bank began at the young age of 18. It led him through the two prairie provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. It spanned Clerk General, Inspector, Manager, ending in his beloved Teulon. Never one to be idle and watch life go by, despite an early retirement, Ed took on another career by starting his own business. He named it Miga, after his children, Michael and Gabrielle. For the past 10 years, he has been the official Office Pin-up Boy and Computer Wizard at Bigway Foods, spending many devoted hours inputting data, finding and fixing any and all computer glitches. Up at 5:00 a.m., he stopped in at Esso for a coffee and to read the newspaper, then to Taste of Country Café for breakfast. After that, on to work, ever smiling and always in a good mood. His dry sense of humour and keen sense of observation greatly amused any who encountered him. An avid reader, he devoured books and magazines. Countless hours were spent tinkering and fixing anything that needed it. He always had a possible solution to try. Joy and Ed settled on an acreage where he also spent hours tending to his beloved flower beds, lawn and nearby woods. They celebrated 40 years of marriage in September 2005. Ed lived life fully on his own terms. A quiet man, asking nothing and not taking much space, he helped others wherever he could. His commitment to Lions and Kinsmen Clubs saw him spending tireless hours organizing and participating in their many worthwhile activities. A few years ago, due to failing health, he had to let others carry on. Ed was two weeks shy of his 62nd birthday, March 15, the Ides of March. We love you, Ed. Bon voyage. You fought a valiant fight. Rest now and be at peace. We miss you already. Your loving family and friends. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon, MB. Father Gerald Langevin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation. MacKenzie Funeral Homes, Teulon, in care of arrangements (204-467-2525).
