ELLA MCCARTHY On March 4, 2006 at the Grace Hospital, Ella McCarthy, aged 88, wife of the late Larry McCarthy of Winnipeg, passed away. Born January 8, 1918 in Lampman, SK, she was the eldest daughter of the late Delphis LeBel and Amelia (nee Klatt) LeBel. She trained with Frank Shinn at the Shinn Conservatory of Music in Winnipeg and earned an Associate Degree in Voice from the London School of Music. She also trained as an LPN at the St. Boniface Sanatorium. Left to mourn are two daughters, Lynne of Winnipeg, Cathleen of Calgary and three sons, Lawrence of Vancouver, Greg and Sue, with granddaughters, Megan, Shannon and Tara of Calgary, and Myles of Hudson Falls, NY, USA; three sisters, Constance of Vancouver, Alma of Calgary and Erna of Toronto. Ella began attending St. Ann's Church in 1941 where she famously sang in the church choir, and took great delight throughout her life in her role in the church community. It was here she met her husband and life-long companion, Larry. Ella's sense of devotion was felt in every aspect of her life. She took exceptional pride in her role as wife and mother, and was truly devoted to St. Ann's Church as singer and organist for many years. She received citations for her volunteer work, especially with the Society of Manitobans with Disabilities. She and her husband received a special papal blessing for their years of service to St. Ann's Church. She touched everyone with her extraordinary lightness and sweet, good nature, a compelling testament to her faith and devotion to her unwavering spiritual values. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann's Church, 271 Hampton Street on Tuesday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, it was Ella's wish that donations be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or to St. Anne's Church, 271 Hampton St., Winnipeg, MB R3J 1P6. Deepest thanks to Sister Alice Konefall, for her loving support and gentle ministrations. She blessed our mother's house with weekly visits to share prayers and communion. Mum's sparkle of joy was clearly apparent whenever Sister Alice came. CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
