FRIEDA REIMER 1925 - 2006 Frieda Reimer, aged 80, of Winnipeg, formerly of Riverton, beloved wife of the late Klass B. Reimer, passed away peacefully at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home on Saturday, March 4, 2006, in the presence of loved ones. Mom was born to William and Augusta (nee Schalla) Giesbrecht in their home in Hunga Vea Die (Hunger Beware) near Steinbach on December 8, 1925. She was predeceased by her mother in November 1978, her father in July 1984, her husband in March 1998, and her son Johnny Klass in July 1965. Our mother and grandmother, great mother and sister will be sadly missed and fondly remembered to her children: Christine McLellan of Calgary, Shirley Crothers of Winnipeg, Irene Reimer of Ottawa, Mary Ann Reimer of Dryden, Henry (Shelley) of Red Lake, ON, Edwin (Sandy) of Gimli, Ruth Conan (Steve) of Winnipeg, Daniel of Riverton, Bill (Teena) of Vermilion Bay, ON and Levi (Tena) of Winnipeg; her sister Mary of Winnipeg; brother Bill (Anne) of La Broquerie, MB; sister-in-law Mary Reimer (Mrs. H. B.) of Steinbach; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom and Dad moved to the Riverton area in the early 50s where they, along with others who followed soon after, established the Mennville Community near Riverton. Mother identified very strongly with this place; she was a Rivertoner at heart. We remember her as a hard working determined woman who carried through what she set out to do. Many of us remember spending hours with her looking after a big garden, one of the many passions of her life. We knew that things were really changing for her when one spring not so long ago she did not plant a garden saying that she would get to it yet. Mother was always concerned about looking after the needs of her children, always wanting to prepare a meal for children or provide overnight accommodation, even when it was impossible to do so in the nursing home. She was always welcoming to new family members and visitors; she was especially welcoming to those who might feel like outsiders in her community. In later years mother spent many hours volunteering at the MCC self help store in Riverton. This work was very important to her and the focal point of her social life. Mother spent the last years of her life in nursing homes, first at Grunthal since September 2002 and then at Bethania since June 2004. The family expresses profound and heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful care she received at both of these places! The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care home Chapel, 1045 Concordia Ave., with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment in the Riverton Community Cemetery at 5:30 p.m. Donations made to The Canadian Diabetic Association or the charity of your choice will be appreciated!
