Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT GARRY HOURIE (BEAR) It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Albert (Garry) Hourie on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at his residence in Winnipeg at the age of 63 years. Garry was born in Grand Marais, MB on November 28, 1942. Garry is survived by his only child, daughter Michelle Hourie (Raymond Flett); grandsons, Joshua Hourie (Bianca), Jordan Scott; Poppa to granddaughters, Sierra and Sienna Jackson. Also survived by brothers, Doug (Nettie) Hourie (Dwayne and Colleen), Marlowe (Lisa) Bear, sister Audrey Fontain-Kehler (Robbie and Marlene), sister-in-law Maria Bear (Laura and Morgan) and Aunt Marge (Wilfred) Anderson (Lori, Bev and Kevin) as well as numerous cousins. His is also survived by his former wife Kathy Hourie, stepsons David and Darcy Canty; friend Shirley Sanderson and children Cheryl and Robbie; special friends John, Sharon and Pat. Garry was predeceased by his grandparents Peter and Marge (Irving) Hourie; parents Sam and Elsie (Hourie) Bear; brother Gerald Bear; brother-in-law Richard Kehler; cousins Wendy Orvis, Lyle, Norman and Allen Hourie. Garry graduated from Selkirk High School in 1962, spent six years with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1964 to 1970, his last two years at the University of Manitoba (University Squadron) studying Electrical Engineering. Garry spent five years in Toronto working for C.T.V. and General Electric, two years in Calgary for G.E. In 1977 he moved to Selkirk and was Assistant Director of the Metis Friendship Center for two years. Garry was also Director of the Niagara Falls Friendship Center. Garry worked in Winnipeg for eight years in the 80s for Motorola and then for Prairie Communications until his early retirement in 2000 due to his illness. Garry will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved the outdoors, blueberry picking, picnics and the beach. His delicious bread, bannock, soups and pies will be missed by all who were lucky enough to taste them. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ Church Anglican, Selkirk with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Peters Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Doug Hourie, Chico Hourie, Larry Hourie, Raymond Knott, Stanley Sutherland and Ken Bird. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Hourie, Jeff Hourie, Leslie Adams and Mervin Sinclair.
